Sky Production Services achieves latest green milestone with DPP Committed to Sustainability mark

Sky Production Services (SPS) has been awarded the DPP Committed to Sustainability mark. Achieving accreditation means SPS along with Sky and Sky Sports will join the DPP Committed to Sustainability programme, which measures, promotes, and celebrates good practice in environmental sustainability across the media industry.
Scoring the maximum rating of five out of five leaves on the DPP Committed to Sustainability survey, Sky Production Services has showcased its improved sustainability efforts, with the average participating company receiving a score of two out of five leaves.
Working together with Sky Sports and the wider company, SPS’ application was assessed based on policies & standards, energy, waste, and emissions and has shown a commitment to the environment and a mature, thorough, and genuine approach to reducing adverse environmental impact across all areas of the business.
Aligned with Sky’s ambition to be net zero carbon by 2030, a series of operational improvements, including the introduction of remote productions and moving all UK & Irish OB generators to biofuel, Sky Sports & SPS have reduced its combined impact on the environment. With Sky Studios now fully powered by renewable electricity, and all Sky Sports UK productions certified carbon neutral since January 2021.
Inga Ruehl, Executive Director of Production Services and Operations, Sky Sports, said: “At Sky Sports and SPS, we understand our responsibility to do the right thing and that means we must do all we can to eliminate or reduce the impact of our operations on our natural environment. It’s fantastic to receive validation of the team’s hard work by being awarded the DPP Committed to Sustainability mark accreditation with five leaves, and it highlights the progress we’re making to transform our business on the way to achieving net zero carbon by 2030.”
Jo Finon, Manager of Responsible Productions, Sky Sports, said: "I'm so happy that we have achieved this sustainability mark, it shows our existing good working practices and our commitment to sustainability."
Megan Johnston, Senior Partnerships Manager, Sky Production Services, said: “We are excited to be one of the first studios and post production facilities to be awarded this mark by the DPP; it’s great recognition for the practises in place at SPS and the wider company.”
As part of Sky’s ambition to be net zero carbon by 2030, SPS and Sky Sports have been improving the sustainability of its productions and working with industry partners to create change.
In the UK and Ireland, Sky Sports are a member of the BAFTA albert Sports Consortium, which was jointly founded with other broadcasters in 2020. Sky Sports have also offered production teams carbon literacy training, encouraged them to use public transport and car shares and cut the number of flights they take.
Sky works with BAFTA albert on empowering teams to make editorial content that supports a vision for a sustainable future. Last month, Sky Sports partnered with Tottenham Hotspur to put on the world’s first net zero football match at an elite level, using its channels and programmes to encourage football fans to #GoZero.
