8 Minutes And 46 Seconds (The Killing of George Floyd)

The Brief:

SPS were commissioned with providing final post-production and offline support on '8 Minutes And 46 Seconds: The Killing of George Floyd' – a 60-min seamless documentary covering the story of the viral video footage that showed police officer, Derek Chauvin, kneeling on his neck, as he said he could not breathe. The brief was to help highlight his shocking death, the resulting outrage, the sparking of Black Lives Matter protests and the turning point for the anti-racism movement.

The Solution:

Considering the importance of the project, we selected a dedicated team that understood the creative style and that had experience working closely with Sky News’ regular final post-editors. Our team worked tirelessly to half the usual final post turnaround time, coordinated with the production team to build an efficient workflow and create a final post plan, supported Sky News with offline from the beginning of their edit, completed online and final day edit assistance fully remotely and maintained exceptional communication.

The project was completed in 1 week, edited in Avid Symphony, graded in Baselight and audio mixed in Pro Tools, and delivered for transmission on YouTube, multiple Sky channels (Sky News, Sky Atlantic, Sky One, Sky Witness & Sky Documentaries) and Sky Italy & Sky Germany.
